Connecting with industry partners is critical to providing students a competitive advantage in their post-secondary education and professional careers. When educators have the opportunity to connect with industry professionals, we are often asking for a guest speaker, feedback on our curriculum, or ideas that can guide our lessons. Yet there is often little if any actual connection between the industry and our student.

In this session, you will see how many CTE programs throughout our state are implementing a new style of learning through our Center for Advanced Professional Studies (CAPS) Programs. CAPS offers innovative high school programs connecting students to businesses and mentors all while completing projects for businesses to meet current market needs.
CAPS programs establish and nurture relationships with business partners that are mutually beneficial, sustainable, coordinated and multi-faceted.  Our partners help shape curriculum, provide projects, support professional development, invest in equipment and supplies and provide job shadow opportunities, speakers, mentors, and internships.
Students fast forward into their future and are fully immersed in a professional culture. Challenging real-world problems, using industry standard tools and are mentored by actual employers, all while receiving high school credit. CAPS is an example of how business, community and public education can partner to produce personalized learning experiences that educate the workforce of tomorrow, especially in high skill, high demand jobs.
